چکیده

The widespread use of smart meters and other sensors in smart grid has resulted in unprecedented amounts of data being generated at high spatial and temporal resolutions. This high volume data is being generated at a high velocity and comes from a variety of sources, and is designated as “big data” by researchers and practitioners in various domains, including the smart grid domain. Predictive modeling can be used to learn from this data about how electricity consumption patterns change over time and when peak demand periods occur. Utilities routinely face the challenge of ensuring uninterrupted electric supply during peak demand periods. The widespread practice to address this challenge is by demand response (DR), whereby utilities ask customers to reduce their consumption during peak demand periods according to a-priori agreements. For DR, utilities need to make decisions about when, by how much, and how to reduce consumption. While day-ahead predictions have long been used to make these decisions, in this dissertation, we address the problem of making predictions and decisions at a few hours’ advance notice whenever necessitated by the changing conditions of the grid. In particular, we formulate and address the problem of dynamic demand response (D2R) in smart grids that involves balancing supply and demand in real-time and adapting to dynamically changing conditions by automating and transforming the DR planning process. We also focus on the requirements and challenges of prediction

Prediction of the main caving span in longwall mining using fuzzy MCDM technique and statistical method

Immediate roof caving in longwall mining is a complex dynamic process, and it is the core of numerous issues and challenges in this method. Hence, a reliable prediction of the strata behavior and its caving potential is imperative in the planning stage of a longwall project. The span of the main caving is the quantitative criterion that represents cavability. In this paper, two approaches are p...

Fuzzy-Decision-Making Predictive Power Control Approach to On-Grid Photovoltaic Panel

In this paper, a voltage-current mode controller is proposed to adjust both the input current and DC voltage of a boost-inverter in order to improve the performance of the photovoltaic (PV). The proposed system is based on fuzzy-making-decision predictive voltage-current controller (FPVCC). The simulation results show that in case of using the proposed FPVCC, the input current of a PV array is ...

Negotiated Learning for Smart Grid Agents: Entity Selection based on Dynamic Partially Observable Features

An attractive approach to managing electricity demand in the Smart Grid relies on real-time pricing (RTP) tariffs, where customers are incentivized to quickly adapt to changes in the cost of supply. However, choosing amongst competitive RTP tariffs is difficult when tariff prices change rapidly. The problem is further complicated when we assume that the price changes for a tariff are published ...
